The Ogun State government has been commended for it’s efforts on road re-habilitation across the length and breath of the state.
Making the recommendation was the General Manager of the state owned Public Works Agency OGPWA, Arch. Gbenga Akintola in his office when the new state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC Com. Ahmed Umar paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
While receiving the guest, the GM said that it was the resolve to improve the standard of living of the public that made His Excellency Gov Dapo Abiodun established the public works agency about twenty one months ago and since that period, OGPWA has embarked on the repairs of about Sixty two road networks that included Sabo Lafenwa road, Kuto-isabo road, Kuforiji-Adigbe junction, IRS building complex, Oke-mosan in Abeokuta.
The General manager further revealed that in Ogun East, roads like Oke-Aje market-Luba road, Tam Balogun street GRA, Ijebu-Ode and Osinubi-New, while at Remo, Awolowo market road in Sagamu, Idarika, Iregun-ilisa, Araromi Oja-Ale roads, Iperu have been re-habilitated just as Kunle Ibikunle-Poly road, Ilaro, and some other places in Yewa North have been re-habilitated while new ones have been approved for re-habilitation.
He noted that beyond road repairs, the agency also focused on advocacy campaign on the right usage of road Infrastructure, saying that it is a collective responsibility of all road users to preserve the roads as they remained a collective heritage for all.
While speaking, the state sector Commander of the FRSC, Com Ahmed Umar equally commended the state government on its efforts on road network across the state especially Abeokuta the state capital since the time he assumed office as the state sector commander.
He however, appealed that efforts should be stepped up to provide more road signs on the roads. Also, pedestrian walkways should be cleared and be used for the intended purpose, while OGPWA too should join the quarterly joint Inspection team on road Infrastructure that included the FRSC, police, NSCDC and other security and traffic related agencies.
